reformatting c drive. cyclic redundancy check.?

I tried to reformat my C drive with my cd of original installation, but it is stuck at 33% and suddenly makes me an error has been encoutered that prevents Setup from continuing. Data error (cyclic redundancy check) "when he told me to clean the disk or to run the disk check. I clean the disk and I do not know how to get the utility disk check by clicking here. The error in the bottom also means "Error: Directory d: i386 NT5INF.CAT catalog file could not be found. The error code is 1. This is a fatal error. "So D: I386 asms. Is there a way to start from scratch here?: (How do I zero the drive? That's weird! I have tried the cd again for the 10th time and after 6 hours on the mark of 33% and it has finally completed the installation! thank you all for your comments.

Sounds like you have an installation CD corrupted because the error is saying it could not find a file on the CD (assuming D: is your CD). I'd contact the manufacturer about this and tell them that you get an error message saying it can not find a file on the CD-ROM when you try to reinstall. The failure of the CRC could be another corrupted file on the CD. It could very well be nothing wrong with your drive then I'd be looking to get another CD before replacing the drive.
