I accidentally threw 2 canceled checks, what should I do to stop identity theft?
I Thew them away in a gas station and someone found them and sent them to my address with a letter saying not to throw. How can I make sure I dont get my identity stolen?
Do not throw anything that has personal or financial information on it. Invest in a good shredder for home, and shred these if you want to get rid of them (we bought one at WalMart for $ 20 that he shreds small enough). You also want to be careful providing information over the phone. Never give out information if you did not initiate the call. Keep an eye on your credit report ensure that no false reports are made about you. You should be able to obtain a credit report once a year. And the list goes on and on. Search the Internet for more info, or there are tons of books out there on the subject.
